With every passing year after our 20th birthday, our body produces one additional percentage point less collagen than the prior year. That means at 45, your skin has one quarter less collagen under it. Since collagen provides the structural latticework under our skin that keeps it firm and young looking, this decline is serious bad news. That declining collagen and elastin, along with sun damage and personal habits, gang up to make our skin sag and loosen. This allows the formation of lines, creases, and areas of volume loss such as the cheeks.

Kybella® isn’t an elaborate design; it’s basically deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in the human body. Its job is to help the body break down and absorb dietary fat. The great thing about deoxycholic acid is it doesn’t differentiate — fat is fat. So, the premise behind Kybella is to inject it into unwanted fat that has accumulated under the jaw creating the dreaded double chin. There the deoxycholic acid gets to work, attacking and breaking down the fat and dramatically slimming the profile. The FDA approval allows up to six injection sessions of Kybella®, depending on the amount of fat that the patient has accumulated under his or her jaw. Each session, we use from one to three vials of Kybella®.
Thermage® delivers radiofrequency energy into the dermis layer of the skin. There the RF energy converts to heat and triggers a wound response in the body. The body responds by contracting existing collagen across the treatment areas, and then it initiates new collagen production. The result is firmer, younger-looking skin.
truSculpt® iD provides a non-invasive option for fat reduction and tightening skin. The mechanism used by truSculpt® iD is radiofrequency energy, which is delivered painlessly down through the epidermis into the dermis and fat layers of the skin through a variety of different handpieces. This RF energy converts to heat and destroys fat cells, which are then removed by the body’s lymphatic system. In addition to reducing about 24 percent of the fat in the treatment areas, truSculpt® iD’s RF energy also provides a secondary benefit of initiating new collagen production, which tightens the skin across the treatment areas.
Microneedling has long been used to improve the skin through hundreds of microscopic punctures across the treatment areas. But the procedure took a huge step forward when the micro needling tips were equipped to deliver radiofrequency energy beneath the skin with the needle penetration. This combination of micro needling and RF energy is the basis of Genius™ RF.
The goal of these AesthetiSpa treatments is to reverse, or at least stem the tide somewhat, of that collagen and elastin decline we mentioned in the introduction. Each of these treatments — Kybella®, Thermage®, truSculpt® iD, and Genius™ RF — work in different ways to attack fat and trigger a wound healing response in the skin that creates new collagen production and tightens and improves the skin.
Kybella® decreases your double chin by removing fat that has accumulated under your jawline. Thermage® delivers RF energy into the dermis layer of the skin, which triggers increased collagen and elastin production to firm and improve the skin. truSculpt® iD uses RF energy to destroy about 24 percent of the fat in the treatment area, heating the skin at the same time to tighten it down. And Genius™ RF takes popular micro needling and adds RF energy to deliver that energy directly into the dermis layer on the facial skin.
These are all non-invasive treatments. There aren’t any incisions or scarring. There isn’t any downtime or recovery. By using mechanisms such as deoxycholic acid (Kybella®) or radiofrequency energy (truSculpt® iD) to break down fat or delivering RF energy into the dermis to trigger new collagen production, these are innovative, effective treatments to reduce fat, firm loose skin, and improve skin quality.

Can I Combine These Facial And Body Sculpting Treatments?
These treatments can work as complements to one another. For instance, if you’re troubled by a double chin, Kybella® injections are the way to reduce the fat and reclaim your profile. If you’d also like to add truSculpt® iD to target, say, abdominal fat pockets, we could do that at the same appointment. There’s no need to combine Thermage® and Genius RF, as both seek to deliver radiofrequency energy into the dermis layer. But you could combine one or the other with Kybella® or truSculpt® iD.
